SS13 Menswear Trends from Northern Threads

3 Essential trends set to make an impact this upcoming spring/ summer season as chosen by Northern Threads

It’s that time of year again, the time of year where the attention of the fashionable man is lured towards the fresh trends of the upcoming spring/ summer season. Although it’s still February and you’ll most probably be continuing to rely on your trusty knitwear/ shirt combination, you still can’t help but be drawn to the latest trends and thinking about making the transition to spring/ summer clothing, right…? If that’s the case with you – we don’t blame you; after all we understand that it’s the aim of the fashion conscious man to continue to be fashionable and stay with (if not ahead of) menswear trends.  So whether you’re planning your wardrobe for the upcoming season or live in sunnier climes and already making that transition to SS13 wear – this run down of the three trends that we believe will be huge this season is certain to help you out.

Here it goes:

Fluorescent Colours

Bright colours make an appearance on the catwalks of men’s fashion events every season but this time it’s different, the colours that graced the fashion shows displaying SS13 collections were full of fluorescent palettes. Such colours have been adopted by the likes of Hugo Boss and applied to their latest Boss Orange collection; complete with vibrant garments the collection certainly expresses the need for colour this season. The same principle has been applied to Hugo Boss’ sport collection (Boss Green); the boss green collection has some colourful pieces in its SS13 collection with their popular polos boasting vibrant colours also.

Colour trends spring/ summer 2013 – Red, Orange, Yellow, Magenta, Ice like Blue – Yellow being a talking point at the moment.

Tailored Shorts

We’re discussing the key trends for spring/ summer so it was always inevitable that shorts were going to make an appearance here. But you can’t just throw on any old pair of shorts and expect it to work, well this isn’t completely true but if you like to follow trends then we recommend you stock up on tailored shorts – shorts with a slimmer fit. Similar shorts graced the catwalks of fashion events showing SS13 menswear and as thought they’re starting to grace the rails on the high street too.

Printed T-Shirts/ Shirts (and beyond)

Printed t-shirts have been a big part of the menswear scene for sometime now and not only is the classic definitions of printed t-shirts/ shirts continuing to spill onto the catwalks but it seems the term “printed” has evolved. It’s all about graphic prints – from over scaled plaids to floral prints (what seems to be a popular choice). And not only is the print trend continuing on t shirts and shirts but it’s now making it’s way to jackets, knits and more.

The camo look has also had a revamp, although classic camo is continuing to be the print of choice; this season a floral adoption is making an appearance on the catwalk (but will it continue to the high street, we’ll see).

So there it is, our run down of the top three trends that are set to storm this spring/ summer  - our observations are already gaining weight as our latest arrivals are full of colour and prints, so make sure our three picks make their way to your wardrobe in some form this season.
