GARDE-ROBE

GARDE-ROBE the new chic menswear line is run by parisian based design duo Olivier Borde and Heath Callender. Their first collection GARDE-ROBE A/W 08 was unveiled at the International Festival d’Hyeres in April 2008 and was received warmly. Their designs are bold and daring but do not upset the established codes for menswear. They recently released their ss09 lookbook (pictured below) featuring designs characterised by fitted and cropped jacket, low hanging pants ,geometric patterns and even cropped pants all hand stitched. I had to catch up with them and ask a few questions. How does it feel to finally start your own line?

Olivier Borde & Heath Callender:It feels great to have our own collection, it can be a bit challenging at times, but it's definitely worth it.

Is it overwhelming the amount of support and nods you've gotten so far?

O.B & H.C:We are just very grateful to have the support we've gotten and continue to receive. It's nice to know people are responding to what we're doing in a positive way.

Your designs have been featured in Fantastic Man magazine and Tetu, which is great for a line that debuted this year, what effect has this had on the line in terms of exposure?

O.B & H.C:It seems to be helping very much, but it's very early to answer this right now, after the next presentation in Paris this January we will know better what effect it has taken in terms of interest from buyers etc.

I am fascinated by your designs, what inspired the ss09 collection?

O.B & H.C:The SS09 collection was inspired by Into the American West by Richard Avedon and contemporary traveler culture. Overall our inspiration continually draws elements from the past, utilitarian workwear and contemporary streetwear.

What level do you intend to take the line to in the next couple of years?

O.B & H.C:We hope to take the label to as many great boutiques that will have us, possibly doing more accessories and one day maybe have our own freestanding store.

I love your blog, and here's why: as I go commenting on on fashion blog on the daily basis I see stunning clothes, but there's one problem, they are for women!
and I can wear what you post!
