Simon Tham

A lot of you might remember Simon Tham from his Popular Abercrombie & fitch ads, however the Canadian born half Chinese and half English model has enjoyed far greater success this year. Being one of my favorite male models i thought to catch up with him and ask some questions. Where were you born?

I was Born in Toronto, Canada and grew up in the suburbs about 30 mins outside Toronto.

What are your educational qualifications?

Completed about a year and a half of studies at The University of Western Ontario. First year went really well and I enjoyed everything to do with the college life but second year I realised I didn't want to continue studying my program. I'm still holding on to the idea of post secondary studies though.

At what age did you start modelling?
I started modeling last summer in Toronto with Sutherland Models while on break from school at the age of 21

How rewarding and challenging has the experience been?

The experience has been great so far, I’ve had the chance to get to know New York and enjoy the culture it has to offer. As for challenges, my main concern has been making sure my mind is balanced and I’m making use of my spare time.

Who are your role models?

Right now my role models are people in my life that are pursuing things that truly fulfill them

You did some runway jobs during the newyork fashion week, how was the experience?

It was exciting to be in some of the shows during New York fashion week. I enjoy doing shows because the atmosphere is upbeat and its interesting to see all the preparations being made.

You are one of the most prominent Asian male models right about now, how does it feel?

That’s very nice of you to say. Although I hadn’t considered that, it’s good to hear.

What do you have to say to other aspiring models with Asian ancestry or heritage?

With an exploding Asian population and China becoming more powerful and wealthy on the global stage (so I’ve heard from friends), the fashion industry is bound to take notice!

Special thanks to Belle at Major models and Simon Tham for making this interview possible :o)

Maison Martin Margiela Banded Sunglasses

This is one of my picks for innovative designs this year. Menswear has grown in leaps and bounds over the years. A couple of years ago no one would have tried this except you wanted to look like an alien and risk been ostracized by society... :o) Fashion seems to be leaning towards futuristic designs and one like this is genius. Although forking over $500 for a pair of designer shades are not a priority for me , i would love to get it as a christmas gift...haha. So those of thinking up stuff to give me this christmas, you just got a clue.

Gola 'Valiant' Hi-Top Trainers

When it comes to high top sneaks, look to buy only the ones that are clean cut and smooth. A lot of high top sneaks are designed like snowboarding shoes. If its gonna be worn everywhere else apart from the slopes it better get the look. Flat or low soled hi-top sneaks are always cool as they transcend any age group and in fact look better. These cool pairs of sneakers by Gola are very subtle yet cute and they go for $82.50 at the online wonderland www.asos.com

Coach Tote

The basic function of any manbag or murse is haulage in simple terms. A manbag should carry all of those things that do not fit into your pockets and also have room for a laptop. However a perfect manbag must do this without appearing strained or bulbous. It should also have a handle and shoulder strap for ease of usage and not appear feminine. The Coach black tote fulfils all these requirements

Tassled Loafers

If i was going on a trip and had to take only one shoe it'll be good ol loafers. These are the most versatile shoes on the planet. You can dress them up or down, they go with anything from shorts, jeans for a casual look and they can even be worn with a suit to the office or for a business deal. Tassles add character to this incredible footwear that dandies and toffs the world over can connect with. The first shoe pictured above is a fringed tassled loafer while the other one is just tassled. They are both by GH Bass and are available for purchase at www.asos.com

Skeleton Print Shirts

There are numerous skeleton print tees some of them look appealing while a whole lot ,appaling. If you're looking to cop a skeleton tee the best would be white ,grey or light blue with the skeleton print in black.Avoid hideous skeleton prints on techni-color shirts they r a no-no except you want to look gothic or ????? some of you might not agree with my opinion on this matter, you are also right, everyone's entitled to his own opinions and sense of style i'm only expressing what works for me :o)

Dr Marten boots

These awesome boots by Dr Martens are de-riguer in Europe. Not only are the feet chic they are also sturdy and engineered to last . The rubber soles have a very strong grip and of course the colors they come in are so amazing. I particularly like the red 10" one pictured above. Picture for a moment how awesome these boots would look with your jeans tucked into them :o) splendid right? i bet. Available at www.drmartens.com or www.asos.com

The Ideal Trouser Outline

Another name for trousers that have this kind of cut is smart. I would not wear trousers that do not have this cut because personally i think this cut flatters the male body most. Unless you are overweight or think you got some bulges in certain parts of your lower body that you need to disguise. Male trousers should have a low waist and be cut or cuffed slightly below the ankle to avoid the billowy look of long pants and also give your shoes a chance to flaunt themselves :o)

Fall Boots

Gucci Boots Fillipa K
Ralph Lauren Fresno Boots
Alexander McQueen Detachable boots
Fall weather comes with its own perks :o) it gives even the average dude the chance to add some flavor to his wardrobe and look. Boots as always come in handy whether they are 8" or 10". There are multitudes of boots out there to choose from at different price ranges, so your goal should be the look and design of your boots and not really the price tag. We all know that money does not buy style it only buys fashion, embrace fall boots and wear them with a certain flair you're confident about.

Objet de mon désir

This Banana Republic Monogram Tote which retails for $300 online at their website is one virile bag with all the trappings of military impedimenta. It depicts affluence without screaming it. the most amazing thing about it for me is its color. But you also cannot ignore the magnificent design of the utility pockets and oh! the buckle....

The Odd Blazer

There are times that even i had to really think before pairing an odd jacket to my outfit. In menswear it's rare to find the flexible usage of color. Most colors were branded feminine until recently when labels like Ralph Lauren started using teal, turquoise and electric blue. Still there's still a certain fear to tread these paths, people will rather leave it to the dandies. The trick in wearing an odd jacket is complementing. If the colors complement each other then you're good.
When wearing odd jackets its best to pair them with neutral darker colors to tone them down so you do not appear garish. So come on guys add a little adventure to your sartorial nuances, get out there and cop those odd jackets.

Vintage Dior sunglasses

Aviator style sunglasses from the 60's ,70's and 80's and not worn! wow! this is to good to be true. I found them at www.vintage-sunglasses.de at amazing prices below $250 , what a bargain. I'm so in love with plastic vintage sunglasses that my metal Rayban aviator has been put on indefinite suspension :o). Would you blame me?
